When scanning slides with the Reflecta DigitDia 6000, slides may occasionally get stuck when they are retracted. To reduce this to a minimum, there are some tips below. 1. Orange adapter: A common source for this error is the wrong position of the orange adapter. For universal magazines, the orange adapter on the transport arm must be at the front of the tip so that the slide and adapter touch when retracted. For all other types of magazines (such as CS magazine, LKM magazine or Paximat magazine) please slide the orange adapter all the way back. 2. Tips for CS magazines: If CS magazines have been stored for a long time and rarely used, it can happen that the slides are very tight in the magazine and difficult to slide out. To avoid this you can solve this problem with silicone spray. You can simply spray the inside of the magazine with silicone spray and slide the CS frames much easier from the magazine (see video tutorial). Silicone spray can be found here or in the hardware store. If you do not have any silicone spray or other suitable lubricant on hand, we would recommend you to relocate the slides several times in another magazine (see video). If you do not have an empty CS magazine, you can push the slides out of the magazine by about 2/3 and push them back in again. You should repeat this process several times to loosen the slides. 3. Tips for universal magazines With universal magazines, jamming can occur more frequently, especially with thin slides. A common cause is that the magazines do not slide well through the device. Therefore, I also recommend you to buy silicone spray in this type of magazine, e.g. here at Amazon. In this case, do not spray the magazines directly, but spray a part of a napkin with silicone spray and rub the contact surfaces on the underside of the universal magazine with it. You can also carefully rub the surface of the sliding surfaces on the slide scanner. However, under no circumstances spray the slide scanner or your magazines directly. This can lead to severe damage to the scanner or your slides.
4. Tips for cardboard and thin frames Cardboard slides and other thin frames can lead to slides getting stuck due to their small width. Always make sure that there is only one slide per slot in the magazine. If you get more jammed, you can place one or more journals / thin books under the slide scanner on the left or right side. As a result, the scanner is a bit slanted and the slides fall in one direction, so that the slides can be better grasped. 5. Tips for glass frames On the one hand there are glass frames, which usually pose no problems. On the other hand, there are also slides that consist of two pieces glued to each other with adhesive strips of glass. These slides can not be processed directly from the magazine with the slide scanner because they are too heavy and too big. You can, however, insert them one by one and scan them individually. After each scan, simply remove the slide by pressing the green button on the top of the unit. The dialift moves up and you can remove the scanned slide at the top and insert a new one.

The "Reflecta Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner" has a decisive advantage over the "Reflecta Super 8 Scanner": It requires five times less time for digitization. However, as a final result you get a video which is played in 30 frames per second (so-called "fps" = frames per second). In the past, Super 8 movies were usually filmed in 18 fps, sometimes in 24 fps. As a result, the movie plays faster than the original, so people move faster on the moving pictures, for example. You can see this very well in our video below (from 6:11 minutes): (paBut since the scanner has scanned all images completely, you can easily change that afterwards. Digitize your movies as normal with the Reflecta Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner and then save the movies on your computer.
Adjusting with Windows MovieMaker Most Windows computers come preinstalled with Windows MovieMaker. Otherwise it can be downloaded here. 1. Open the program Windows Movie Maker. 2. Select the "Start" tab, click "Add" and select the "Add videos and photos" option. 3. Now open the folder where your video to edit is stored and click on this video. 4. Now click on "Open". In the menu you will find the item "Videotools". 5. Select "Edit". There you will find the option "Speed" under the item "Speed". Select "0.5x" here. Note that this adjusts the speed to 50% of the previous speed. This means that your videos will be played in 15 fps, which is a bit slower than playing your original Super 8 movie. Adjusting with VideoPad (also available for macOS from Apple): If you do not have a Windows computer or want to adjust the speed to exactly the original of 18 fps, you would need to use a different software. Common video editing programs should have this setting, some of which make the speed exactly customizable or only inaccurate, as is the case with the Windows Movie Maker. One software that can precisely adjust the speed is the program VideoPad (paid content). 1. Open the program VideoPad. 2. Load the video you want to edit into the program. 3. Mark the video 4. Click the small triangular icon next to the Effects button in the Start tab toolbar to open the Video Effects submenu. 5. Select the sub-item "Change clip speed". Now you should see the window "Enter new percentage for clip speed". You can change the speed by entering a new percentage. If your Super 8 movies were filmed in 18 fps at the time, like most Super 8 movies, you'll need to enter 60% here. It may also be that you filmed in 24 fps at that time, so you would have to enter 80%. Normal 8 films usually used to be filmed in 16 fps, so 53% are to be entered. Eliminate initialization and calibration difficulties with the DigitDia 6000 or DigitDia 700020/8/2019 This guide will help you with scanners, such as the Reflecta DigitDia 6000, DigitDia 7000, RPS 10M, MF5000. With the Cyberview X software, some Windows computers occasionally experience one of the following situations:
Situation A: You start the software and the message "Initialization - please wait ..." persists even after several minutes without the software opening. Situation B: You can start the software, but when you start a scan you will see the message "Calibrate". Nothing happens for several minutes. Note: Both errors can occur either directly during the first startup of the software or at any later time. If either of these situations apply to you, please proceed as follows: 1. Make sure you are using our supplied USB cable and it is plugged directly into your computer without any additional extension cable. The scanner must not be plugged in with an adapter (such as USB-C). 2. Make sure you're saving directly to your internal hard drive, not to an external storage device. 3. Exit the software via the Task Manager and turn off the scanner. 4. Disconnect the USB cable from your computer. 5. Disconnect any other scanner or printer (either via Wi-Fi or via USB) connected to your computer or home network and do not turn them back on during scanning. 6. Uninstall the "Cyberview X" software from your computer. 7. Download the software "Cyberview X" via our page Download Links. 8. Restart your computer. 9. Stop any type of antivirus software or any other software that has permission to cross-program. Quite often, the antivirus software suppresses the connection between your computer and the scanner so it can not be properly initialized / calibrated. 10. Now install the program downloaded under point 6. 11. Restart the scanner and wait until the gripper arm retracts and the LED indicator on the device turns solid green. 12. Now insert the USB cable into your computer, ideally via a USB 2.0 input. If necessary, use a different USB input. 13. Restart the software and start a new scan attempt. If there is still a problem, make sure you have completed all steps correctly, especially Step 8 (antivirus software and similar programs). If necessary, use another computer to try the scan. Differences between the Reflecta Super 8 - Normal 8 Scanner and the Reflecta Super 8+ Scanner20/8/2019 We get frequently asked by our cutomers which differences there are between the Reflecta Super 8 - Normal 8 and the Reflecta Super 8+ Scanner. With this post we would like to put the two scanners side-by-side and compare them.
Not only the results, but also the operation of the scanner and the technical details are important when selecting a scanner. For example, the quality of a film after digitizing on the Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner (left) compared to the Super 8+ Scanner (on the right) is shown on the bottom video. Sensor and video format: The Super 8+ scanner has a 9 megapixel sensor and produces movies in AVI video format while the small Super 8 - Normal 8 scanner has a 3.5 megapixel sensor and produces MP4-format movies. For the Super 8 Scanner, the resolution is 1920x1080p, but there will be black borders added on. In comparison to the Super 8 - Normal 8 scanner, the resolution is 1440 x 1080p and there will be no black borders added on. The resolution of the film is therefore the same for both scanners. Frames per second: Usually Super 8 movies were filmed earlier in 18 fps. With the large Super 8+ scanner you can set whether the film should be saved in 18 fps or 24 fps. Since we exchanged the old Super 8-Normal 8 scanners for the new, more precise models at the end of 2018, which now also automatically adjust the playback speed, the movie runs in 20 fps and thus at the right speed. Scan time: Probably the biggest differences between the two scanners is the time they take to digitize the films. While the Super 8+ scanner requires approximately 2.25 seconds per frame, the Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner is significantly faster at 0.5 seconds per frame. This means that the Super 8+ scanner needs about 45 minutes to digitize one minute of film, while the Super 8 - Normal 8 scanner only takes about 10 minutes to do so. Coil size / film material: The Super 8+ scanner can process coils with a film length of up to 240 meters (= coil diameter 21.0 cm). So it can fit all the usual film spools on this device. However, only Super 8 movies and no Normal 8 movies can be edited. The smaller Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner can - as the name implies - scan both Super 8 and normal 8 films. This device only fits coils with up to 60 meters of film material (= coil diameter 12.7 cm). Tip: If you have larger coils, but still want to use the smaller device, you can easily cut the film from a larger coil and put it onto several small coils. By rewinding to smaller spools you can save a lot of time, so that many of our customers take advantage of this opportunity. Alternatively, a coil (> 12.7cm) can also be hung externally next to the scanner, please have a look at our instructions. Handling: The Super 8+ scanner must be connected to a computer and is only controlled by the software, which can be downloaded (even in advance). First, the scanner creates frames of the footage and in a second step, you can combine them into a movie. Operation via the computer makes handling a bit more demanding than with the smaller Super 8 Normal 8 scanner, but it can also be done by a user with basic computer knowledge. The Super 8 Normal 8 scanner has the advantage that no computer is needed for the digitization. Everything is set directly on the device and stored on the supplied SD card. There are no frames saved here. You will receive a finished video file immediately after the scan process is complete. Through our instruction video, you manage the operation of the Super 8 Normal 8 scanner straight away. You will find the link and the password for the explanatory video in the letter, which we will send you together with the scanner. Conclusion: The operation of the Super 8 - Normal 8 scanner is easier because you do not need a PC or software. The resolution is full HD on both scanners. Scanning is much faster on the Super 8 - Normal 8 scanner than on the Super 8+ scanner. We therefore recommend to rent the Super 8 - Normal 8 Scanner, especially for small coils up to 12.7 cm in diameter, but also for larger coils, if you can hang or cut them externally according to our instructions. You may have found a box of old movies in the basement and are not sure if it is Super 8 or rather Normal 8 movies? This article should help you to tell what kind of footage you have. We have already compared the differences between the individual Super 8 and Normal 8 scanners that we offer for rent in this article. Normal 8 films were first distributed by Kodak in 1932, while Super 8 films quickly replaced this format after its introduction in 1965. Since there was no Super 8 material at the time of the Normal 8 movie, names like "8 mm film" or "Regular 8" are often to be found. Visible differences: The width of the filmstrip is 7.90 mm in both formats, so both types of film fit on both Super 8 and Normal 8 coils. To decide what kind of footage you have, you should pay attention to the perforation. If there is one hole at a time in the image transition (a hole next to a black stripe that separates the frames), then this is a normal 8 movie. With super 8 films, the hole is always at the center of the picture and is slightly smaller overall. As a result, the actual image is slightly larger than normal 8 movies. Super 8 movies usually have a playback speed of 18 frames per second ("18 fps"). This means that when playing the movie 18 pictures are shown every second. Sometimes Super 8 films used to be filmed with 24 frames per second. For normal 8 films, it was usual to run only 16 frames per second. An important note at the end: Both types of film can have soundtracks. These are shown in gray in the graphic above (next to the perforation or to the left of the actual frame). The soundtrack usually has a brown color. Although it is possible to digitize movies with soundtracks using our Super 8 scanner or our Super 8 Normal 8 scanner, it is not possible to digitize the soundtrack. The film will be a silent film in digitized form. As we now offer two different models of the DigitDia series for rental, we would like to point out the differences below so you can decide which scanner is the right one for your purposes. Optical and mechanical differences The scanners are visually identical, so you can process the same types of magazines (Universal, CS, LKM and Paximat magazines) on both devices. From the outside, they can only be distinguished by the version number.
Software: Both scanners can be controlled via the software "Cyberview X", which is also included in the delivery. The operation of the software is similar for both devices and differs only in details. The software can be installed on both Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10) and Mac (OS X 10.7 or higher). Thanks to our instruction videos, the operation of the scanner is very easy. Resolution: The DigitDia 6000 has a maximum resolution of 5,000 DPI. For private purposes, a resolution of 2,500 DPI is sufficient. It should be noted that the jpg image files with a resolution of 5,000 DPI are about 20 MB in size. If you want to have a higher resolution, you better use the DigitDia 7000, because it manages to get a total of 10,000 DPI. Scan time: The scan time depends largely on the selected resolution for both devices. The higher you choose the resolution, the longer the scan will take. At a resolution of 1,000 DPI, the DigitDia 6000 requires about 1-2 minutes per slide, at the maximum resolution of 5,000 DPI it is already 6-7 minutes per slide. Compared to the DigitDia 6000, the DigitDia 7000 is about 15% faster than the DigitDia 6000. This can certainly bring a considerable time advantage for a larger slide collection. Additional features: Both scanners have the "MagicTouch" function, in which dust and scratches are detected by means of an infrared light source and are retouched from the image. We explained the advantages in detail in the article about the Magic Touch function. You should turn this feature on in any case. The DigitDia 7000 also has two more functions. The setting "Multipass Xposure" causes the dynamic range to be increased. This happens by the slide is exposed several times. The advantage is that it allows the brightness differences in the picture to be better emphasized. The second additional feature is called "Multiple Sampling" and reduces digital noise. Note that both functions result in a longer scan time. Conclusion: For private purposes, the DigitDia 6000 is usually sufficient. It creates solid results in good quality. If you are looking for even better results and prefer a faster scan time, we would recommend renting the DigitDia 7000. The Reflecta Super 8 Normal 8 scanner (as well as the Somikon HD-XL film scanner or the Wolverine Super 8 Normal 8 scanner) may cause some film material to flicker. Depending on the severity, even the whole picture can jump back and forth or the film will not be transported any further. To avoid this, you can simply work through this guide. This is not a malfunction of the scanner but just one necessary adjustment, since the footage used to be very different and the scanner must be set especially for your footage in advance. In most cases the problem is already solved by adjusting . Note, however, that some slight flicker will always be visible due to the technique. A normal flicker can also be a bit stronger depending on the footage as you can see in the following video: If the film shakes heavily or if the film does not move or does not move properly, proceed as follows: Step 1: If you have purchased the device, we point out that you follow this tutorial at your own risk and we can not guarantee success. If you have rented the device from us, please send us an e-mail in advance stating the invoice number and the serial number of the device in which you ask for approval to carry out this manual. This is necessary so that we know which devices were screwed on. Step 2: Make sure you have set the lever to the correct position. For Super 8 films, the lever must be set to the right, for Normal 8 films to the left. If you are unsure which footage you own, please click here for details on the differences between Super 8 and Normal 8 films. If you have misadjusted the lever, start a new test scan with the correct settings. If the problem persists, or if you have the lever in the right position from the start, continue to step 3. Step 3: Open the flap on the bottom film guide (see fig. 1) by sliding the slider labeled "Open" to the left. fig. 1: S8N8 Scanner with closed flap Step 4: Locate the screws shown in Figure 2, which secure a metal plate. These screws are sprung, so that the metal plate can move a little bit in all directions. fig. 2: metal plate with screws Step 5: Carefully turn both screws - if at all possible - to the very right (clockwise). fig 3.: tightening the screws Step 6:
Run a test scan. You should only scan a short sequence for this, usually enough to let the scanner run for two minutes before pressing the "Enter" key to stop. Watch the movie and find out if the film is still shaky. If so, go to step 7. Step 7: Turn both screws equally half a turn to the left (counterclockwise) and run a new test scan. If the shakyness is still noticeable after that, turn another quarter or half turn to the left and run a test scan again. The Reflecta Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner can be used to digitise coils with a maximum diameter of 12.5 cm. Following this tutorial for the Reflecta Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner, Wolverine Scanner and Somikon Film Scanner you'll be able to scan larger coils pretty easily. Note that you will need at least two empty coils of 12.5 cm (60 meters film) in diameter (an empty one is always included in our package). If you do not have any additional reels, we can send them to you for free if you rent the scanner via our website. Simply note this request in the notification window while ordering. You can also order empty reels after you received the scanner but you need to take care of the shipping costs for that. Step 1: Preparation Connect the device to a power source, insert the SD card and turn on the device. Then place an empty 60 meter film spool (diameter 12.5 cm) on the right side of the device (see fig. 1). fig 1: prepared Super 8 Normal 8 scanner Step 2: Transfering the film onto the empty coil Pick up your large coil and put the film onto the empty coil ( fig. 2). Take a fitting pen and insert it into the hole in the middle of your large film coil. During rewinding, you have to hold the coil above the device to allow the film to transfer properly. If you have an old projector you can also use it for rewinding as it is more convenient. fig. 2: transfering the film onto the small empty coil Step 3: Start rewinding Firstly click on the "Menu" button and then click "Down" until you see "Rewind (More)" (see Figure 3). Secondly double press "Enter". The scanner will start rewinding (see short video below). After the coil on the right hand side is full, stop rewinding by pressing "Enter" again. fig. 3: menu fig. 4: Rewinding Step 4 (optional): Cutting the film When your large coil is full, it is necessary to spread it over several small ones. For example, a full 120 meter coil (diameter 17.5 cm) fits on two 60 meter coils (diameter 12.5 cm). So, you need to cut the film. We would recommend leaving the second half of your footage on the larger coil so you can repeat this tutorial with the remaining film later. Step 5: Second rewind You now have the film backwards on the small coil. To put the film in the right order again you'll have to place the full small coil on the left side of the device and place another empty small coil on the right side of the device (see fig. 5). fig. 5: rewinding a second time Step 6: Start scanning
Now that all the preparations have been completed and you can digitize the film like normal by placing the full coil on the left side and passing the film on it through the device along the white line. Step 7: Rewind the film on the big coil Once you've completely digitised the movie, you can rewind the movie back to your big coil. Put the film onto your big spool. Slide it back onto a pen and place the small full coil on the scanner (similar to fig. 2). Since electronic rewinding on a large spool isn't possible with this scanner, you'll need to turn the large coil by hand. In case you had to cut the film (step 4), remember to return the second half of the movie first to the big spool and then the first half. Both parts of the film can be easily glued together with a small piece of tape. You can also buy special film tapes here. It is also possible to digitise large Super 8 coils directly with our large Reflecta Super 8 scanner. The differences between those two devices can be found on our comparison page. Renting the the Reflecta Super 8 scanner from Scanexperte you have to consider that this scanner initially creates JPG frames, which must then be combined into one AVI video file. To do so, all you have to do is click "Next" and then click "Combine" after the scanning process is completed. The software takes some time to combine the frames into a video file. You will also be asked if you want to keep the frames in addition to the video file. You should definitely click on "Yes, keep individual frames" to make sure that no data gets lost during assembly. While combining the frames into a movie it is not possible to digitize another movie. The scanner must always be connected to the computer if you want to start the software and combine frames. If you want to put together the movies after you've sent the device back or while you're digitizing the next movie, you'll need another method. Below we've listed some options for combining you movies. Please note that those are external software suppliers for which we can't provide technical support. Combining with VirtualDub
Many customers use the program VirtualDub, which can be downloaded from the following website: virtualdub.org. With this program, the individual images can be combined to form a .AVI file. Combining with Windows Movie Maker The program Windows Movie Maker is already installed on most Windows devices, but can be downloaded later: 1. Open the Windows Movie Maker program. 2. Click on "File" and then on "New project". 3. Then click on the icon below "Add videos and photos". 4. The file manager will open, you can select the images you want to put together. Select all here and click "Open". This step may take some time, depending on the computer's performance. 5. Then go to the "Video Tools"> "Edit" tab and enter "0.05" in "Duration" to set 18 frames per second (Super 8 speed). 6 Click File> Save Movie> Recommended Settings> Recommended For This Project. Please be patient as this step also takes some time. Important: We would like to point out again that we can not provide support for external software and that these two solutions are only intended as alternatives. We would always recommend to use the scanner's own Cyberview S8 software as the assembly is very easy. Nowadays both the slide technology and the Super 8 technology are technically outdated by their digital succerssors. Because of that, it is difficult to get slide projectors and Super 8 projectors, which are usually only available second hand. Accessories, as they are often needed for digitization, are still available for purchase. Then the same slide is continuously pushed in and out of the device, while the slide scanner should actually continue to the next slide. Another problem that is caused by this sping that the transport arm stays in its place. Those issues can be easily fixed by repositioning the spring with the following instructions. You can get a look at the spring when you push the transport arm completely out of the device and look from the inside to the outside (see red frame fig. 1). Spring is below the transport arm, left and right black tail of the spring When the spring has popped out, both black end pieces of the spring are on one side of the transport arm. 1. Turn off the slide scanner and disconnect the power and USB cables from the scanner. 2. If necessary, push the orange adapter, which is located on the transport arm, all the way to the end. (eye away from the tip). 3. Turn the slide scanner over so that you can see the bottom of the scanner. 4. Completely extend the transport arm out of the slide scanner and open the gripper arm screw (see fig. 2). The screw has a nut, which must be placed there again later. fig 2: screw on the transport arm 5. Now remove the black plastic part (see red circle fig. 2) by pushing it away from the silver metal part. On the black plastic part, the upper part of the transport arm, on which the orange adapter sits, should remain mounted.
6. Pull the upper part of the transport arm completely out of the device. 7. Look closely at the opening in fig. 1 on your slide scanner and push the upper part of the transport arm back into the unit above the spring and between the two black end pieces of the spring. 8. Replace the upper part of the device on top of the lower metal part and tighten the screw on the nut (see fig. 2). 9. Now the transport of your slides should be fixed. Is it possible to manually move the transport arm in and out? If it does not, then you should go back through all the steps in this guide to see if you've missed something. The following error message may appear on the Reflecta Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner (as well as the Somikon Super 8 Scanner and the Wolverine Super 8 Scanner Scanner):
"Custer Size Wrong - Please Format": This message means that the SD card has a format that can not be processed by the scanner. This is often the case with new unused SD cards. Fourtunately there are just a few stept you have to follow to get rid of this error message: 1) Back up all data stored on the SD card on your computer as all data on the SD card will be erased. 2) Insert the SD card back into the Super 8 Normal 8 scanner. 3) Turn on the Super 8 Normal 8 Scanner. 4) Press the "Menu" button. 5) Use the arrow keys below the display to get to the item "Format (More ...)". 6) Confirm with the "Start / Enter" key. 7) You will now be reminded that the SD card will be formatted (that is, all data on the SD card will also be erased). Confirm this with "Yes" (see display on the device). 8) After a very short loading time, you automatically return to the menu and the formatting was successful. You can now use the arrow keys again to digitize a new movie at the point "Recording". If those steps did not work, please make sure you have completed all steps correctly and in the correct order. Please only use so-called "SDHC" cards and no micro or mini SD cards (not even with corresponding adapters). The maximum amount of space the SDHC card can have is 32 GB. If you use a wrong or defective SD card, the movies may not be saved properly or you may receive the "Custer Size Wrong" error message permanently. In this case you should try another SD card. If you've rented the Reflecta Super 8 Scanner, it may happen that the "capture" button is locked, so that you can not start the recording. Basically: In the vast majority of cases, the "capture" button is not unlocked immediately, so you have to use the arrow keys located on the device to skip back and forth in order to help the device to find the correct frame. Try to repeat this process several times until the button is unlocked. If this method doesn't help to resolve the issue, please proceed as follows: Step 1: Make sure that the movie you are using is a Super 8 movie. Normal 8 movies can not be scanned with the Super 8 Scanner. These can be inserted into the device, but scanning is not possible. You can look up the differences between the types of films here. Step 2: Even if your movie is a Super 8 movie, go ahead and try to put in another Super 8 movie. Depending on what kind of brightness the scene of the first movie had, the scanner may have difficulties with the recording, so putting in another one could help with that. If this did not work either, it is likely that some dust has been deposited on the perforation sensor. Try to clean the dust off by following the next steps: Step 3: Close the software, turn off the device and remove the cables from the device. Step 4: Slide the gray slider on the right side of the unit up to pop open the lightbox (see fig. 1). fig.1: front view of the Super Scanner, grey slider is marked Step 5: If you take a look at the device from the side, you will see a larger hole in which the camera is installed and above the camera hole in which the sensor for detecting the perforation is located (Figure 2). fig. 2: side view Step 6:
Dust will most likely be in the smaller upper hole where the perforation sensor is installed. Sometimes there is also some dust on the camera. Therefore you should blow air into both holes. You can do this manually, with a straw or a bellows. Never take compressed air spray out of a can. This step must be repeated several times. Step 7: Uninstall the software that you have on your computer and reinstall it. In any case, only use the software that you can download from our download page. Then restart the computer. Step 8: Turn on the scanner, wait until it is fully powered up, and then connect the scanner to the computer. Step 9: Open the software and create a new project. First, recalibrate the scanner. If there is an error message when calibrating, there is probably still dust on the sensor, so you should go back to step 6 and repeat the previous steps. If there is no error message, go to step 10. Step 10: Insert a movie (preferably one that you've already been able to successfully scan) and then check to see if the capture button is unlocked. Depending on that you have to push the film a little further into the device several times with the arrow keys. If the button is still locked go back to step 6. If the button is in fact unlocked, take a test recording. Then you can continue to scan as normal. Sometimes there's dust from your photos collecting on the scan unit causing streaks on your digitized photos. For this problem there's a quick fix. Since this is not a defect of the device, do not return the device in any case without consultation. Just follow this tutorial to clean the dust off of the scan unit. If you're scanning many photos please make sure to repeat the cleaning process frequently. The manual is also suitable for the Kodak PS80. Step 1: Identifying the streaks Depending on how much has collected on the scan unit there can be one or more streaks. fig. 1: scanned photo with light reflection and streak The vertical stripe in the middle of the picture comes from a dust particle which has to be removed. Light reflection: The horizontal stripe on the upper side of the picture does not come from a dust particle, but from a bend of the photo. This creates the light reflection you can see in the picture above. You can reduce the light reflection or remove it by placing the photos face down and selecting "Scan Back" in the software. The scanning unit on the back does produce way less light reflections. Step 2: Open the scanner Before you can clean the scan units, you have to open the scanner by pressing the lever marked red (fig. 2) . Pulling to the font you can now open the scanner. fig. 2.: the lever to open the device is marked. Step 3: Locating the scan units In Figure 3 you can see the opened scanner. In the upper half of the picture the scanning unit for the front side, which is located in the unfolded side of the scanner, is marked. This can not be reached directly because it is installed inside. In the lower half of the picture you can see the scanning unit for the back, which is directly accessible. fig.3: marked scan units Step 4: Cleaning the upper scanning unit The upper scanning unit has a slot behind it where the scan unit is installed with a mirror. This scanning unit should NOT be cleaned with compressed air or damp cloths. For cleaning we would recommend taking a device that can aspirate the dust with little suction pressure. Or you can use a weak vacuum cleaner on the lowest level, but do not press it directly onto the device and keep it a few centimeters apart. Or you take a device that blows air into the slot. You should also do this very carefully and at the lowest level possible. Step 5: Cleaning the lower scanning unit We recommend to scan the photos with the image side down. If this happens, clean the lower scan unit (see Figure 4). fig. 4: lower scanning unit is marked This scanning unit is easily cleaned with a microfibre cloth. If needed you can use a lightly dampened cloth to get rid of the dust drying the scanning unit off after you've cleaned it. Please also take a look at the red and grey rolls since they can also be dusty. Step 6: Test Scan
Fold the scanner back in and put a few pictures on the scanner. Run a few test scans to see if streaks are still occuring. If you continue to see them, try cleaning the corresponding scanning unit again. When scanning, frequently check the inside of the device for any dust that needs to be removed and clean it off. Important: Only open a device rented from us if you have received a written confirmation from us. If you use this manual for a device that you have purchased, use is at your own risk. It can happen occasionally that a slide gets stuck in the device or even falls into it. This is especially true for very thin slides, e.g. if there are multiple slides in a tray, or if the slide frames are not closed properly, open during scanning and parts of the frame fall into the unit. You can avoid this by checking your magazines before scanning. However, if a slide or other small parts have fallen into the device, stop scanning immediately and switch off the Reflecta DigitDia 6000 or the Digita Dia 7000 Slide Scanner immediately. Rescanning after a slide has fallen into the device can seriously damage the scanner. Never try to remove the slide yourself with tweezers, your hands or similar items as this will damage sensitive components. If you have rented a device from us, please contact us first (for example by e-mail or telephone) and have the opening confirmed in writing. Then you can do the following Step 1: Remove your slide magazine from the magazine slot, remove all cables from the device, and flip the scanner over so that you can see the bottom of the slide scanner (see fig. 1). Please place the slide scanner on a cloth or blanket. Step 2: Remove the warranty seal, which is labeled "# 1" in Figure 1. Please note that with purchased devices the manufacturer could limit your possibly existing guarantee. With our rental equipment you are not affected by this, if you have obtained our written confirmation in advance. fig.1: bottom of the device, screws to be loosened are marked Step 3: Take a phillips screwdriver (fig. 2) and use it to remove the screws labeled # 1 to # 4 in ill. 1 and set them aside. Screws # 1 through # 3 are in a hole while screw # 4 is just next to the off switch. fig. 2: suitable srewdriver Step 4: Turn the slide scanner back to the correct side and press the dark green eject button on the top of the scanner so that the black slide holder extends upwards (fig. 3). fig. 3: slide scanner with raised slide holder, marked is the green eject button Step 5: Now you can carefully remove the gray cover, with "DigitDia 6000" or "DigitDia 7000 Magazine Scanner" Inscription (fig. 3), slightly pulling to the side and upwards. fig. 4: opended device Step 6:
Carefully remove the slide from the scanner. Avoid contact with all electronic components. Never use tweezers or similar items to remove the slide. Afterwards check whether further slides or parts of a slide have not fallen into the device and remove them as well. Step 7: Put the gray cover back on the slide scanner. The black single feed (fig. 3) must be extended upwards. Step 8: Once the gray cover is properly seated, retract the black feeder and turn the slide scanner over so that you can see the bottom of the scanner (fig. 1). Step 9: Put the four screws that you've removed back in and tighten them. Step 10: Now you can use the slide scanner again in normal operation. But please, run two test scans before you do so to make sure that there are no damages inside the slide scanner. If you'd like to perform a magazine change on a slide scanner (such as the DigitDia 6000 or DigitDia 7000), and the transport arm of the scanner moves in and out multiple times there's a quick fix to that. Option 1: instruction video If you have rented the slide scanner from Scanexperte, you'll get access to our instruction video. Please take a look at the instructional video, which includes also an explanation of the magazine change. (in German language only) Go to the page https://www.scanexperte.de/diascanner-video.html Enter the password for the video, which you will find in the letter sent with the slide scanner. If you only want to view the magazine change section, you can fast-forward to 18:38 min. The explanation of the magazine change then takes about 2 minutes. Option 2: Without instruction video Step 1: Go into the software and click on the slide icon, which has a hash-key (#) in the upper left-hand corner: fig. 1: setting the position Step 2: Enter the number "1" in the window that opens (see Fig. 2) to inform the scanner that it is now at the beginning of the magazine after changing the magazine. Important: The first slide in the new magazine must now also be inserted in the device. fig. 2: positioning menu
Rarely, the Reflecta DigitDia 7000 or the DigitDia 6000 may cause the orange adapter to become detached during transport and can no longer be positioned correctly on top of the slide holder. For universal magazines, however, the adapter must be attached to the front. For all other types of magazines (eg Paximat, CS) this is not a problem as the adapter has to be pushed to the back. Usually, the adapter snaps in properly when you push it to the top of the slide holder. If this is not possible, the problem can be solved as follows: Step 1: Disconnect the scanner from the power supply and position the orange universal-cartridge adapter on top of the slide holder. (fig.1.) fig. 1: orange adapter on top of the slide holder Step 2: Take a small piece of tape and place it about one-third over the adapter and about two-thirds onto the metal part. Please glue the tape to the slide holder exactly as shown in ill. 2. It is important that the tape is not completely wrapped around the adapter. ill. 2 adapter secured with tape Step 3: Turn the excess ends of the tape strip to the left and to the right so that the adapter is secured from all three sides. fig. 3: Adapter with folded-over tape strip Step 4: Now you can put the scanner back into operation and continue scanning your universal magazines. For slide scanners from Scanexperte we will of course immediately replace the defective adapter after the return shipment.
The Cyberview S8 software occasionally causes the following situation on some Windows computers:
Situation A: While starting the software and the message "CyberView S8 can not connect to the digitizer" pops up. If this situation occurs, please proceed as follows: 1. Make sure that you are using the supplied USB cable and that it is plugged directly into your computer without any additional extension cable. The scanner must not be plugged in with an adapter (such as USB-C). The scanner has to be connected to a USB 2.0 port (no USB 3.0 support). 2. Exit the software via the Task Manager and turn off the scanner. 3. Disconnect the USB cable from your computer. 4. Disconnect any other scanner or printer (either via Wi-Fi or via USB) connected to your computer or home network and do not turn them back on during scanning. 5. Uninstall the "Cyberview S8" software from your computer. 6. Download the "Cyberview S8" software via our page Download Links. 7. Restart your computer. 8. Stop any type of antivirus software or any other software that has permission to cross-program. Quite often, the antivirus software suppresses the connection between your computer and the scanner so it does not initialize properly. 9. Now install the program downloaded under step 6. 10. Restart the scanner and wait for it to fully power up (may take 1-2 minutes). 11. Now insert the USB cable into your computer, directly via a USB 2.0 input. If your computer has multiple USB inputs try to use a different one. 12. Restart the software and start a new scan attempt. If there is still a problem, please make sure that you have completed all steps correctly, especially Step 8 (antivirus software and similar programs). If it is possible, try to use another computer for scanning your slides. If the software does not start on a second computer, please contact us via info@scanexperte.de so that we can send you a different software version if necessary. Please also tell us your operating system. Reflecta slide scanners (e.g. DigitDia 6000, DigitDia 7000, RPS 10M, and MF5000) may sometimes fail to recognize an image section. This problem can especially occur with black and white slides or negatives, as certain materials can deactivate the automatic frame detection of the scanner. Step 1: In this case, disable the "MagicTouch" and "AutoColor" adjustments. To do so, go to Scan> Preset> Positive (or B & W or Negative)> MagicTouch / AutoColor and uncheck the two menu items. It is important to change those settings in all three preset menus (Positive, B & W and Negative). fig. 1: preset menuStep 2:
Run a test scan and check the result. If frame detection is working now, you can continue scanning without the "MagicTouch" and "AutoColor" setting. If the frame is still not detected automatically, follow the next steps to set the frame manually. Step 3: At first go to Scan> Prescan and perform a prescan. Step 4: After that you'll see a preview of your slide in the software and you can use your cursor to set the section that fits your slide. Now you'll have several options: (a) You could place the cutout exactly on the scanned slide. you'll also have to scan all the following slides in the same way, either all landscape or all portrait. You should therefore sort your magazines in advance. (b) You can also scan the complete slide including the frame by selecting the largest possible part of the prescan. By doing so, you can then select the section after scanning by later cropping the images (with a picture viewing or image editing program). This is a general recommendation if you don't want to sort slides in portrait and landscape orientation in advance or if you do have slides of different sizes. Note: If you experience frame detection problems with colored slides, the problem may be due to a different cause. In this case, please contact us immediately by e-mail to info@scanexperte.de and please attach a few false scans in the appendix. We will then contact you to resolve the issue. |
